The SeaPark Resort of Giulianova
endorses Legambiente’s proposal for sustainable tourism.
The
importance of protecting the land and natural sceneries as well as
peoples' culture, history and customs is already acknowledged all over
Europe. This attitude comes out with a newly-emerging need to find
events, places and establishments where environmental quality through
responsible behaviours is increasingly perceived as a means of improving
both holiday and the environment.
Legambiente
is sure that a lasting solution can only be found through the voluntary
involvement of local environmentally-aware businesses and their guests.
This is the reason for placing its experience as an environmental
organisation - with long-established activities in land and natural
resources protection - at the service of new practical initiatives in
the field of sustainable tourism.
These
initiatives aim at mitigating human-induced stresses on the land -
through a reduction of tourist environmental impacts in tourist areas -
in order to preserve and improve Italy's natural resource and cultural
heritage, which is almost unique in the world.
So, where
to spend a quality-plus holiday in a more environmentally-friendly way
without reducing one's own comfort? Now tourists can choose among
seaside and mountain resorts or spas, picking from the wide range of
businesses showing the Legambiente logotype (including all-star hotels,
campsites and other accommodation).
The SeaPark Resort
of Giulianova
since 2005 has been a resort officially recommended by Legambiente
Tourism as one of the
“Recommended
Hotels on account of their commitment to environmental protection"
whose environmental
key goals are:
waste reduction and recycling; energy and water saving; abatement of
noise and traffic; promotion of environmentally sound food products and
local gastronomy; promotion of local natural itineraries and monumental
attractions.
NEWS LEGAMBIENTE TOURISM
FEBRUARY 2006
“LEGAMBIENTE TOURISM” AWARDED BY
THE EUROPEAN UNION AND BY THE AUSTRIAN GOVERNMENT FOR THE INITIATIVE OF
THE RESORTS “RECOMMENDED ON ACCOUNT OF THEIR COMMITMENT TO ENVIRONMENTAL
PROTECTION”.
Legambiente Tourism has been awarded
by the European Union and by the Federal Government of Austria, during
the European Conference on “Tourism and ecologically sound Travel”,
held in Vienna under the umbrella of the EU Austria semestral
presidency.
Legambiente’s initiative, started
eight years ago with a project regarding the Riviera Romagnola and the
town of Riccione, received the second award of the general catalogue,
with special regard to the incentivation of collective transport and
the development of light mobility for tourists.
A significant reason for this award
was the initiative "Get by train to Riccione, free of charge" promoted
by the Hoteliers Association of Riccione (the first partner of
Legambiente Tourism project) in cooperation with Trenitalia.
This award (the only one for an
italian initiative) was given to Luigi Rambelli (President of
Legambiente Turismo) and Giovanna Pasti (Scientific Expert of the
Association) by the Austrian Vice Chancellor and Transport Minister
Hubert Gorbach.
It is an important acknowledgement for
a non-governmental civil society initiative that spreads, by now, among
80 towns of the coast, the inland and some major cities of 8 Italian
regions, joined by more than 300 hotels and resorts totalling 40.000
beds and 4 million guests.
Words of appreciation for the Italian
initiative have been expressed by some representatives of the Austrian
Government, the European Commission and the World Tourism Organization.
Legambiente Tourism’s local projects are implemented in Veneto,
in Chioggia, in Emilia Romagna with several projects on the Riviera, on
the Appenine area and in some art towns like Ferrara; in the Marche (Parco
del Conero, S. Benedetto del Tronto and Colli Piceni; in Toscana (Elba,
Versilia, Palazzuolo sul Senio, Casentino); in Umbria (a Gubbio, Norcia,
Montegrandone, Lago Trasimeno); in Abruzzo (Martinsicuro and
Giulianova); in Campania (in Parco del Cilento and in Paestum); in
Calabria (in Parco dell’Aspromonte).
